PLEASE TAKE SUBMITTING AN APPEAL SERIOUSLY. INCOMPLETE APPEALS WILL BE DENIED.

To appeal your financial aid suspension, you must demonstrate the extenuating circumstances that prevented you from being academically successful at SUNY Orange AND SUBMIT SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION.

Financial Aid and Academic Advisors can assist you in filing an appeal. Please seek assistance to ensure your appeal receives full consideration.

Possible Circumstances and Examples of Documentation:

Below is a list of possible circumstances and the suggested supporting documentation. The following examples are not exhaustive and serve only to provide examples. If you cannot include documentation with your appeal, you must explain why supporting documentation is not available.

Circumstance: Death in family
Documentation: Death certificate, obituary

Circumstance: Divorce or separation
Documentation: Court documents, lawyer statement

Circumstance: Domestic violence or victim of a crime
Documentation: Court documents, restraining orders, police reports, etc

Circumstance: Illness (any type)
Documentation: Documentation from medical professional, hospital records (limit to 5 pages)
Instructions:

1. Provide an explanation that details the extenuating/unforeseen circumstances. Be sure to include all of the following elements in your explanation:

WHAT: Explain the extenuating circumstance(s) that affected your academic performance. If you have attempted 90 or more credits, explain why you have not yet completed your degree (for example, you’re attempting a second degree, declared multiple degrees, or other circumstances). *
WHEN : Specify when the extenuating circumstances occurred. List specific dates and/or semesters. *
HOW & WHY: Explain how and/or why the circumstances affected your academic performance. *
RESOLUTION: Explain how the circumstance(s) has been resolved or actions you have taken to improve your academic performance. Outline the changes you have made in your personal, social or economic situation that will allow you to improve your academic success. BE SPECIFIC and provide details. *
2. If you’ve attempted over 90 credits, please attach documentation (a copy of an email is sufficient) from Academic Advising confirming the number of credits you need to complete your current declared degree program, and the semester you intend to graduate. Your appeal will not be reviewed without this documentation.
